This page is dedicated to a problem that most of us have with our 200's. That annoying and ugly looking cracked vinyl that plagues the door panels. In the past year I decided that I would take a crack at repairing the vinyl myself, after getting quoted 120 bucks to get them fixed. So this is my step-by-step instructions for anyone that wants to try to fix the vinyl themselves. It was alot easier than I thought that it would be so hopefully these instructions will make it easier for anyone who's going to try to fix their vinyl.

Parts List
  • New Vinyl
  • Epoxy (5min setting time)
  • 1/4x3/4 phillips bolts(get the ones with the tapered head) x16
  • Nuts to fit the bolts above x16
  • VLP Bond glue
  • Cutting utensals
  • Drill and drill bits

Step 1
The First thing you need to do is to remove the door panel from the door. The panel is held on by two screws in the door handle, one in the side window defroster where the side view mirror connects, and then the frame that surrounds the door opener. Once you have those pieces off you can gently pry the door panel off the door.

Step2
The next thing you have to do is to seperate the individual pieces of the door panel. On the back there should be 11 or 12 screws that hold the partical board part of the door panel to the plastic bottom. My screws had electrical tape taped over them so if you see some tape peel it off to see if there under the tape.

Step 3
Once you have the door panel apart you need to either pry off the metal retainers that hold the top panel with the vinyl on wth the plastic studs. I tried to get them off but I ended up breaking them all off (You can refer to the red circles on the pic to the right) I you can get those retainers off without breaking them then this repair will be much easier for you too do. If you do break them off save the front three retainers that circled and connected on the pic.

Step 4
Now with those tabs off and the top panel free to move around you now need to flip the whole panel over and cut the old vinyl so you can seperate the two pieces. There are two very important things you must do here. 1.make sire you cut the vinyl bout 2inched above the bottom of the top panel, otherwise when you put the whole thing back together you will have a gap that will show the particl board. 2 When you cut the vinyl be very careful not to cut to deeply, because the foam underneath will show any major gashes or nic's that you may cause to show thru the new vinyl so cut it slowly.
