so you will have a KA, spend some money on it, then ditch it for a SR. hmmm. personally, with the money youll probably end up spending on a SR, id drop that into the KA and turbo it. from my view...KA yeilds more power
Philipn126
good luck with the ka. i hope that i there is enough info on here for you to complete your swap with no problems.

every time i see a kat and an sr20 go heads up the ka wins hands down. so much more tq

wellll, yes, it would yield more power.
but, i think the sr would provide more usable power, and would have a broader torque curve. im building this car more to handle than anything.

the KA_T will have a better torque range. the KA is a torquey motor. it has a lot of low end torque. with the right turbo setup, you can get a decent powerband. SR's are so overrated. just my opinion. truck engine ftw

All this talk about a KA but what did you get? E or DE?

And yes .. SR's are so overrated now that they finaly make full blown parts for a KA. Here I'll put it to you this way ..

7lbs stock boost on an SR < 7lbs boost on stock internals on a KA

A buddy of mine with an S14 has the same setup mentioned on his KA. They can be turboed with all stock internals (including the 9:1 pistons) and safely boost up to 8psi. He easily put down 286whp at 8psi. I swapped from a KAE to a KADE. Now if I wanted to do the same setup, I would easily put down a bit more power due to the fact that the S13 is lighter than an S14. I'm not saying stock internals is the way to go, but they deff do surpass the SR in power at low boost.

What's nice about the KA's is the fact that everything minus the pistons are forged. And of course, it is recommended that you lower the compression of the engine for turbo applications. The common is an 8.5:1 but I've heard from turbo240.com that the 8.8:1 lets the turbo spool quicker.

Don't get it twisted though. I'm not trying to knock on SR's. Both are great engines, but the "Almighty SR" attitude has blown up to super ego status where it has become overrated. PLus everyone and their mother has them hence why I stuck with the KA.

you can't just say 7lbs on sr<7lbs on KA. the turbo matters more, and most people dont use sr t25's on a ka-t build. so no shit a bigger turbo will make more power with more displacement. im still deciding whether or not i'll keep it. i just dont want to build the KA and it still be lackluster. although it would be REALLY easy for me to go ka-t since ive already got a turbo manifold

You are right .. I didn't think about or say the turbo size .. but even with a stock t25, guys are still surpassing the SR. If you have the manifold, why not go ahead with it? If it's for N/A, then the SR would be a better choice due to the fact that you'll spend quite a few bucks to get to the 200hp mark (trust me I was going to go that route and it tunred out to be a no go for me).

If you're intrested in the KA-T .. check out KA-t.org. There is also Phat KA-T but I dont remember their site offhand.
I Hate Ricers
The SR20 S13 that I drove with a T28 seems like a pretty peaky motor. If someone was going for a broad power/torque band over the ability to do smokey slides at 7.5 grand, why wouldn't you go KA?

Rage seems like he knows what he's doing so the extra brain power and work of converting an NA motor to turbo shouldn't be the hold up either.

being a 240sx guy, i've seen wayyy to many KA vs SR threads so i'm going to tell you to check out www.240sxforums.com on their KA section. they have a ton of KA vs SR stuff with really good information on anyone who's debating... personally i'd turbo a KA before swapping an SR but thats just my oppinion. hope i helped.
ScudBerryBud
id have to second that too.
i think most ppl these days are starting to just go ka/t
whats the saying?
'aluminum is for cans, iron is for blocks'
any way let me know when youre ready ill
try to help out

You would not be putting down more hp, you would be putting down the same amount, your car would just be lighter so you could do more with the same amount of hp....
erik_200sxdrift
lol sam, your in a year old thread
sam31183
there was a couple recent posts above mine...but I thought I needed to clear that up for him...since no one else did...and it was about to give me a seizure.
rage
haha, i didnt even see that someone bumped this
this isnt a ka vs sr thread, annnnd the car should be coming together shortly, im kind of more concerned about prepping the body and painting than dropping everything in though right now. im lazy, and i like to take my time and do things right(ish)
rage
*cough*

its in, i just need to button her up, and start the wiring.
i also seem to have an ant problem, sprayed it down with raid. im prepared to use the foggers, though.
Nameless
Looks good man, hope to see a turbo on that sometime wink.gif
rage
should come after i get the body and suspension sorted out. i have a manifold, wastegate, bov, etc.. laying around though. thinking about using a 16g, i ono.
