Hey hey. just wanted to as if anyone has had any problems hooking up an Apexi SAFC (blue screen) up to an FJ20et?? Ive so far got the SAFC hooked up to my ecu (done by an auto sparky) and then took it to go get dyno tuned and apparently the SAFC wont tune the blasted thing!
Whats the dealeo yo?? So yea just wanted to know if theres any guru out there that can give me some words of wisdom!
Much appreciated!!!! lol.gif

it wont tune because when the FJ was made and when the SAFC was made is too big of a time difference... the SAFC doesnt have in its known maps... the only other way is to go into the system and play with the settings to create your own map setup. Dont think I'm explaining it right, but if you were over here, I could show you how to do it. ROFL

You can't tune the FJ20ET with a SAFC ninja.gif

The SAFC needs a MAF signal between 0 - 5 Volt
The SAFC needs a TPS signal between 0 - 5 Volt

The FJ20ET MAF gives a signal between around 4 volt when idling and 7 volt by full throttle. The SAFC can't convert voltages above 5 volt.

The FJ20ET Throttle Position Sensor only gives 2 signals to the ECU. One is for iddling and one is for opened throttle. The ECU doesn't know how far the throttle is opened.

But there are some other options without the SAFC.

The cheapest thing to do is to adjust the spring in the MAF so you can give the engine more / less fuel.

Or you buy a extra fifth injector set-up.

Or even better is a fully programmable engine management systen.

It is best to run a stand alone with the fj anyway.

actually, what you need to do is remove that quarter-century old hunk of metal you call an engine and replace it with something newer, like an SR20DET...

and then I'll happily take the FJ off your hands for you, being the nice guy i am tongue.gif

Cheers for the comments. sound about right, i got it dyno tuned and tested and thats pretty much what they told me. By the way, does anyone know how much hp an FJ20et should be making? stock that is?

cheers ears, but i think ill stick to my FJ! biggrin.gif

190hp for a fj20et brand new!

hey! don't diss the fj!! it's a superb example of 1980's generally good times and overengineering smile.gif cast iron block, my friend, hehe

The FJ can easily out do a SR20. The only issue is finding the parts needed to build it... but then again, give it 10 years or less, we'll have the same issues with the SRs and and RBs. I personally would take a FJ if I had the cash and a bit more resources for it. FJ by far is an amazing engine.

Its actually underengineered tough old bird with the bottom end based on the tough as nails L series. They built it with plenty of tolerances and very strong materials, not over engineered finicky and with under toleranced materials like the more modern stuff.

Fastest street type nissan 4 cylinder in Australia is an s14 with an FJ20 in it.

Considered mating an SR20 full harness over and tuning it? Or maybe a 4g63 harness. I have seen someone tune a KA24DET using the 4g63 harness and ECU(as well as sensors and everything). In the states, those DSMs have lots of tuning options. EPROM ecus are sought after. I have heard of someone using an SR20 Engine management and tuning it, but that I'm not so sure about. It's quite possible though. Just need to get a BIKIROM and redo the whole thing, but at that point, standalone is the way to go.

PROOF PLZ

Mate there's lots of proof around on that. I have an SR in my s12 but accept hands down a built FJ20 will do an SR no problem. Go to the Australian s12 site you will see all the most powerful, (by far!!) and most reliable power makers are FJ20 s12's. Very strong and reliable too. Also Bens FJ20 powered wheel standing 9.2 second FJ powered drag car is another example.I said above the fastest 4 cylinder nissan in Aust. is an s14 powered by an FJ not an SR, (He obviously used the FJ in this not the SR they come with for a reason.).
You wouldn't see them much in the US as they are to rare there obviously. You can get heaps out of an SR, but the FJ is much tougher by far.

Do a search on the net you'll find the proof, I'm to lazy to look up URL's for you.
