And here is the flywheel and clutch after 15k of very abusive driving.

I only took the clutch off cause I pulled the engine to fix my stud. I will not be buying another XTD though, it is a GREAT clutch for the money, but I plan on making quite a bit more power then stock and I am not sure how it will deal with the added power. It grabbed good the whole time, never slipped and was still going good up until I pulled my engine.

So to sum everything up, need a good clutch for cheap and want it to grab good? go for the XTD.
rage
fact: theyre painted oe spec pressure plates
the discs themselves arent too bad, but if you have any decent power, and beat the clutch up, they kinda suck. get the clutch and flywheel combo for 300
IggyEGuana
My buddy got the clutch and flywheel combo for his Civic. The puck style. This was back at the biginning of the year. February or March. From what he said the break-in period was a bitch. I've driven the car quite a bit recently and to be honest I like it. This clutch is like an on/off switch. I like that but some people won't. I disagree with the statement that the pressure plate is just an OE. But opinion is just opinion.
silverarrow27
I heard that they're good and bad. j/k

I actually had the stage 3 six puck clutch kit installed in my last s13 coupe with a red top sr20det. Drove beautifully and never gave me a hint of failure. Pedal is stiffer than stock, but not by much and grabs very good. You will experience some clutch clatter in first gear though. Other than that just install the clutch kit and daily drive it for a while. No speeding or racing.

Awesome I'm getting some damn good responses, I have heard about the pressure plate being a stock exedy. As for the flywheel combo, I'd like to buy I can't seem to find one for the 300zx. Only the newer version has it that I could find
Ju_S12_Turbo
Ok, since I have a SE What clutch do I get? I'm guessing it's 300ZX NON-TURBO 1983-1989

Now can someone tell me if this looks ok?

Tough to tell in the pic but are those hotspots? I wouldn't use it if so. Thats not a new XTD is it?
Ju_S12_Turbo
brand new, it sucks because I'm new with clutch some it's kinda hard for me to tell.

This one is a little better

Looks like it has lots of dust on it. Try cleaning it with brake cleaner already?
G-E
in the future look into dxd racing clutches, 240mm... prices are similar to act but better stuff without the chatter/shock

looks like surface rust....use some brake parts clean and a scotch brite pad...light rubbing will clean it up fine..

hot spots in the clutch will actually have low and high spots on the face of the pressure plate along with purple-ish heat discoloration

here is a picture of a clutch with hot spots

Thanks that help a lot and has made me a lot less worried

Your fingerprints too will discolor it. All that shit will burn off the first few times you use it, just clean it with a rag first and slap'r in! Don't forget to turn the flywheel too biggrin.gif

Ok, can someone post some pics of the throw out bearings? Because the one I took off my old tranny looks WAY different then the one they gave me.

Thanks

Edit: Here is a pic of the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The old bearing has to be pressed off and press your new one onto the thingy majigger.
Ju_S12_Turbo
alright, cool thanks, Should I take it to a shop and have it done, Or should I just rent one
IggyEGuana
I've never heard of throwout bearings needing to be pressed at all. They're for the most part made to be easily replaced. Maybe you got the wrong clutch kit. Although for us there sometimes is no such thing and the right clutch KIT. I could be wrong though. I have yet to replace my throwout bearing so I don't know for sure yet.

You can try doing it yourself, just have to find a way of getting the old throw out bearing off that thing and nicely and evenly push the new one on. It's not that hard.

I did it on my last trans before we dropped the motor in it was really easy just pop off the little pin and the tb comes right out
Ju_S12_Turbo
Ok, the clutch is in and Broken in the Proper way (I.e. Not doing being dumb and start racing on it) For 500miles never once went over 3000 RPMs and I never shifted hard. But now that everything is is broken in. The clutch grabs really good, Pedal is stiffer than stock, not a lot but I can tell the difference. The chatter was bad in the break in period, But it could have been because I had not driven a 5 speed car in 2 months. But everything is really good now and I would recommend the clutch to someone one who was on a budget and wanted something that grabs better then stock.
silverarrow27
Good to hear it worked out for you.

Can i buy the xtd clutch kit for a ka 240sx and use it on my ca18et?
Ju_S12_Turbo
Holy crap this was almost 2 years ago????

Anyways I am still on the XTD clutch and it has been to a few auto-x's and some drift things and it still grabs very very good. There is almost no chatter now. I still would recommend it to someone on a budget. I think the clutch has about 10k on it now and I am pulling the trans in the next month or so and I will post pics of how it looks

I've had an xtd six puck in my maxima for 3 years, and 25k miles now. Still chatters a tad, and laughs at me profusely. Still bites harder than a rabid "Exotic Dancer"...

So far, I haven't had a single problem with an XTD, And I have them in 4 cars... For the price, It cannot be beat.

The answer is yes get the single cam ka xtd you'll have to mod the mounting holes on the pp you'll see what I'm talking about when you line it up only one hole needs major modding the rest are slight modding

ka24e and de use the same clutches.

ive been following this thread....my buddy with the primered 2 tone notch bought a stage 2 xtd clutch and their 11lb flywheel. we havent installed it yet nor even swapped the engine completely in. it looks good..hopefully it performs the same. the flywheel is light and looks sturdy as fuck. actually looks like a stock flywheel just drilled out.

ive heard mixed things on these clutches, so hopefully it still works out for you. i might end up buying one of these.
sideways_s12
well I was told to get the sohc xtd when i got mine didn't know there wasn't a difference but either way it's a good clutch grabs pretty even with out the break in period
