i know putting single cam pistons in a DE motor will raise the compression to 11:1. what im wondering is this: if i were to go with aftermarket cams would there be clearance issues with the pistons and valves? would the single cam pistons have to be flycut? or should i just fork out the money and buy a set of forged high comp pistons intended for the DE?
BTW..i asked on nico and got zero replies
my plan is to just build a high compresion ka24de with big cams and maybe spray it...i was considering a V8 swap and a few others but i think a built NA ka24de would be fun....and then add a little juice for the track....

As far as clearance goes, I have no idea...
The only accurate way to know is to test it...
Get the block, instal the piston, keep the stock cam and use play doh...
That will get you exactly the minimum distance between your valves and your pistons with the stock cam, just add up the difference between stock and mod cam in lift and you will have a pretty decent idea, that is if you are not going to crazy with duration.

i thought the method was just useing a dual cam head on a single cam block to up the compresion but i could be wrong

arent the pistons in KA's the weak point?
why use pistons that commonly fail below 1 bar of boost. if you have a de just buy de pistons, chances are they will be forged. i read that 95-96 KA oem pistons are the strongest of all the KA pistons. i also heard the 90 24e use lower compression than a 89.

Go search on freshalloy, greaser's 200whp NA KA setup is there and a ton of other useful information.

e and de blocks are not all the same, but close. DE and E pistons share the same bore size and wrist pin height. Think about this KADE and KAE h beams rods are the same. both engines are a 89mm bore.
If you are using E parts, just use the e pistons on the de bottom end. End result will be around 11 to 1. only run 93.
Dont bother with bottom swaps, because then you mess with front covers, adapter plates, and the lack of internal oil squirters.
all stock de 240sx pistons are the same.
yes the cr was lowered from 9.1 to 1 to 8.6 to 1 for the earlier ka's
