Hey everyone, i've got a few questions about swapping a ka24e into my 1985 (mk1?) 200sx.
It has a ca20e in it right now.
Checked the plate and it says i have B tranny. And i couldn't find direct answers for differential numbers but mine are RB41?
Someone said that it might mean r180 but nobody sounded to sure on here lol.

The reason I'm posting this is b/c I want to know definite answers when it comes to swapping a KA-E into a 1985 200sx B tranny and R180 Differential. I really hate surprises and I really hate having to go to 234234 different topics when they could easily be put into one simplified topic. Plus, some info i read in one topic contradicts other information from other topics. tongue.gif

I read in some cases the swap is as easy as KA motor mounts, KA bellhousing, and wiring.

So that being the case, The engine is pretty much mine in 2 days. However, I'm gonna be there to take it out of the s13. What else should I take?

I figure I need:

-the engine (KA24E)
-the KA24E wiring harness + ECU (A link to a wiring diagram would be cool)
-KA24E Power steering lines (read people had problems on here, even an engine fire)
-KA24E bellhousing (not sure if it bolts to B tranny)
-KA24E motor mounts (read i could just use hockey pucks though lol)
-Also read somethign about raising throttle pedal up 2 inches due to throttle cable slack.

and after that it seems like cake.

So that being said, what other parts do I need to make this swap happen?

*Sort've off main topic but would be good to know*
Also, my B tranny slightly grinds 2nd and even sometimes 3rd. So I definatly am considering taking the tranny too. If i took the s13 tranny out with the motor, (Assuming its maunal, i dont have that info yet but im pretty sure it is) how hard would it be to put that in my car. I read i'd need:

-KA24E Transmission
-Custom tranny mounts (which would suck)
-End piece to the drive shaft from my s12 and front piece from the s13

And hell just for the record, anyone hear of s13 differentials working on s12s? My friend welded his s13 diff, works great, been running strong for a few months.
I could get away with mad parts for $100 bucks so let me know what I need of the car and what else i'm gonna need.

Partswise it sounds like you have it covered... I'm gonna try the CA20 power steering line myself, I think I can get away with it if I don't overbend the line.

I would guess the S13 trans will be stronger than the B trans.

but in that case, how will the s13 trans mount up.
keep in mind i have an mk1.

I have a Mark I as well. So follow these pictures and descriptions...

Step 1:

Go from this:

...to this:

The rest is with the transmission crossmember...

Step 2:

Grind down this part on both ends.

Step 3:

Use a sawzall or whatever your favorite cutting tool, and cut the mount bracket part like so:

Step 4:

They should fit together like this:

Step 5:

They will have a gap between them...

...so fill that with some steel washers from a hardware store:

Step 6:

Using a grinder, slot the bottom bolt holes (as shown in the previous photo).

Completed and assembled part:

Installed with transmission in car:

Clearance inside the trans tunnel for the shifter:

That should get you through the modification and install.

As far as all that work there goes, its just to move the mount by a 1/2 inch?
+where is the link to more of this info?

All i would need after that is the front piece of the driveshaft from the s13 and the rear piece from my s12, right?

Its gonna be a while til i get a tranny though, turns out someones already takin it. Definatly lookin to do it later.

However my friend has a bellhousing layin around.
Would the KA-E bellhousing fit with the B tranny?
Arro
No, it's more than 1/2". The Mark II S12's have only to slot the holes a bit and I think they can get away with less, but the B trans in our Mark I cars is off more than you think. Not only is the shifter further back on the S13 trans, but the end of the trans where it meets the driveshaft is further back yet still.

Mark II S12 "C" transmission vs. Mark I "B" transmission:

While the shifters are in basically the same location, the output ends aren't.

S13 transmission vs. Mark I "B" transmission:

The output end is even farther back on the S13 transmission, and so is the shifter.

good sht.

whats good with using the b tranny bellhousing on a S13 tranny?
Arro
Nothing really.. the B trans won't hold as much power as the S13 trans.

Plus I liked the fact that the S13 shifter was a bit further back, I always thought the S12 shifter was too far forward for comfort.
c3z
true, i could understand how.
but answer me these 2 questions then.

Does the KA-E bellhousing work with the B tranny?

and say i was using the ka and s13 tranny combo, whats good with differential upgrades?

we get a lot of donor s13's that we strip to barely anything, so i could snatch a diff. assuming it would work. and to make that work the only other thing i'd need would be the axles?

definatly. lol

i'm not too sure about the rest of your questions, but looking at your list of ka parts that you getting i can say you'll need the ka mass air sensor too definitely. and if your b trans sucks and grinds then you might just be better off trying to use the s13 one, but then you'll need to mess with the driveshaft too, but you allready know that so

Word is the bellhousing will swap but theres some odd swapping of trans bearings. Don't know details of it but I wouldn't bother. Just try for a S13 trans. You'll be happy you did.

As for the rest I think ur worrying too much and overthinkin stuff. Just go for it man. It'll come together.

could i take a SR tranny, and mount it to my CA? by adding my CA's bellhousing to the SR's tranny
yes or no.

and also, my mk 1.5 has which tranny? lmao

if your MK1.5 has a silvertop CA20E C tranny if it's a black top B tranny

I have no idea about the SR
