Do I need to keep any of the s13 relays or should just the engine wiring itself suffice? I get alot of differing stories when searching.

Also, all the annoying vacuum lines I have tied up out of the way (they crossed over the radiator and plugged into the charcoal canister) I can pretty much plug off correct? As well as the handful of hoses entering the intake piping?
Arro
You should keep the canister in your S12, it's basically the same.

What engine is in the S13... a KA24E or DE?

You will need some of the relays. Which ones depends on the last question.

i would disconnect the ecu, and feed the harness through the bay, leave everything attached to the engine harness. yeah, and disconnect those hoses
Arro
You will save yourself a lot of headache if you pick up an aftermarket intake pipe for a KA... Ebay has generic ones for cheap. It simplifies shit in your bay.

Check out my build thread in the "Club Garage" section... last I checked it was on page two, I haven't updated it in awhile. Anyways there's a picture in the first couple pages I think of the modified crossmember, showing you what to do to make it work. I have a 1985 chassis as well, so what I have should work for you too.

You can either use a custom one-piece driveshaft like Iggy did, or you can use an S13 front half-shaft, and the S12 rear half-shaft... meaning you'd have to source the S13 front half shaft from a junk yard or whatever, maybe even off of Nico or some other S13/S14 forum.

KA24DE from a 93 s13. I have the entire car so already have access to the driveshaft.

Thanks for the advice, but I already unhookered the whole harness to get it out of the way. I know where everything goes though.

So, which relays do i need?

And I actually need the vacuum lines? Balls.

Studying Sterling's wiring guide, for the billionth time, I'm not seeing why I would need to swap over any relays...?...
Arro
there is a whole section in his thread about the use of relays and how they are wired up.
brewster240
you already unhooked the harness from the engine?

for future reference, pull the glove box. disconect the ecu plug. disconect the plug that goes up into the dash, by the glovebox. shove the 2 of them through the firewall. uplug the 2 plugs by the battery. lay the harness up on the engine. disconect the lower harness plugs.

disconect the radiator, unbolt the slave, unbolt the engine and trans mounts, unhook the exhaust and driveshaft, pull the c clip out of the shifter.

lift the engine out.

i can do it in an hour and a half if im going slow, its so much easier that way then trying to mess with the harness, just leave it on the engine till you pull it out.

wow, arro thats the deepest post I've ever seen =P

Anyways, why were you taking it out of the S13 anyways, was the S13 a swap candidate, or did it have something unfixable happen to it, or whats goin on there?

You only need one relay from the S13, and that would be the fuel pump/EFI/any. As long as it's a relay from the engine bay it'll work to power your fuel pump. All you do is have to wire it up. Sterling has an error in one his fuel pump diagrams but I forgot to tell him. I fixed it on my own car so I can help you there. If you route your harness the same way as the S13 you'll be fine. You will have to punch out some holes in the firewall to make the ecu connector route through.

You can choose to either keep your existing wiring and just goto the junkyard to make a conversion harness, OR you can cut and splice. Totally up to you. I decided to cut and splice because I couldn't find any turbo connectors to make a conversion harness for my own chassis. Anyway GL and update often with PICTURES!!

Thanks for the clarification, mod mastaz.

Yes, if I had it to do over again, I would have disconnected per brewster240's instruction's. I still know where everything goes though.

As far as why take apart the s13, in one of my earlier threads I had mentioned that I had picked up a totaled s13. It was an unbelievable deal and since my buddy and I split the cost down the middle(he wanted the interior and some body panels)I got everything I need for $250. Which is great cuz I'm a cheap bastard, talk about providence. (Leftovers will go on craig's list so we can break even btw)
