Got the engine roughly mounted today on Hockey Pucks

Would the Engine Clear The Hood On Stock Ka24de Mounts with the Scoop on the Hood?? Not Much Of a fan On Using Hockey Pucks.

Thinking Of Buying a MK1 84 FSM For This car So I can Figure The Wiring out, or is there One On Here I can Download?

Any Tips On The Wiring Of a s13 Ka24de to a 84 s12 Ca18et?
Arro
Search, man! lol

My build thread shows you the answer on the hood... I haven an 84 bulge hood and stock KA24DE motor mounts and it's fine. And the wiring guide that Sterling posted in this section (it's pinned) also gives you the wiring answer as well.

ya I check out your thread Bud, Guess I missed the Part That Said you Used the Stock Mounts.
LonelyS12
nicely done! your DE' looks fresh too.
Arro
Yeah I really don't see the need for anything super stiff...hockey pucks are vulcanized rubber. Gonna vibrate like a MOFO.

The Engine Was Orignally An Auto, Still Trying To Find a Decent 5spd tranny. Has 200,000Kms on It, with 175psi Compression all Across.

I was thinking about the Nismo Mounts, Anybody here use Those??
Redneck
Yeah the nismo mounts are great. They are supposed to be around 40% stiffer than stock ka24de mounts. Here is a video of the difference between stock mounts and the nismo mounts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg8P564ChWA

Damm Those do Make a good difference. Think Ill be Ordering some of those
Arro
How much are the Nismo mounts?

There's also these:

JGS 240SX Heavy Duty Urethane Motor Mounts

TK218-S $119.99 USD a pair

Rubber Motor Mount set

Same as the urethane ones, only with softer rubber inserts
K218-SR $100 USD a pair

Scroll down a bit, and you'll see them.

My stock ones are ok still, but I'll probably go with the rubber and billet ones. Only a hundred bux. Sounds good to me!

Seen nismo Set( Engine and tranny Mount)
$163 CDN + shipping on Ebay

Nismo mounts are great for daily drivers, don't really notice vibrations all that much. For race cars or maximum power output...there's some solid metal mounts out there now.
Arro
I don't see why anyone would need anything stiffer than urethane. ??? Solid steel, crazy lol. But I am sure they do that.

Also the rubber JGS ones are less $$$ than the Nismo ones, and as far as I can tell, nicer quality.
LonelyS12
anyone try the DYI urethane molds in a plastic cup? did asparagus try that out on the s12?

also is 3m window weld urethane? i forgot. if so im going to try and make some mounts with that as i have two tubes of the stuff.
Arro
The tricky part about do it yourself urethane is that the middle doesn't cure to a solid completely... just stays gelatinous and squishy, leaving your work softer and more plyable than a stock rubber mount. Or you do it layer by layer, leaving a clusterfuck of gobs of urethane that can seperate from each other.

Some have had moderate success filling in mounts and such with urethane. Henry did well when he cut a bunch of slices in the stock steering rack bushings, and filling them with urethane, but I would never do it for a motor mount, not when there are cheap and good aftermarket options available (I mean come on did the pictures I posted not make you salivate? lol).
LonelyS12
lol i just have two unused tubes of the stuff i can play with. i guess i'll just fill old bushing with it.

and yes arro, they really did. when i saw them i said "fuuuuuccck! thats some sexy as can be mounts right there!" tongue.gif

matter of fact i will using those in the future now. half the price if not more than nismos? sheeeit yeah!
Arro
And a LOT nicer IMO

+2

a distinguishing figure i failed mention lol

i used stock s14 motor mounts and just put urethane windo weld ($12) all around the mounts, my tranny mount is the same deal just with the stock s12 mount. the engine doesnt really move at all.

i also have a stock (no buldge or turbo) hood but, the inner exoskeleton is cut out and my motor just barely rubs, like just enough to scrape a little paint off my valve cover, i also have hood spacers but they arent needed to clearance the engine. IMO aftermarket engine mounts are a waste of money. also ive never had any problems with my hood being not as strong, which ive tested up to speeds of beyond 110+ mph.

I won't be using the stock 5speed from my 85 ca20 once I put in the motor and tranny from my s13. I should get a chance to yank the engine and tranny from my 85 here pretty soon so let me know if you want it. Super super cheap...

Is Black\White(1) and Black\White(2) The Same Wire???
bleuoval64
is the harness combination thing seriously only a handful of wires? I must be missing something, it can't be that easy.
seishuku
The engine really only needs two power wires (one switched and one always on) and a ground to run, everything else is extras.
Start signal, tach, water temp, etc.
Not really needed, but nice to have.
