I remember the S13 KA24DE being like 155hp, but I dont remember what the S14 KA24DE was rated at from the factory. I remember it being something like 10hp more but I wanted to know what the difference was.
Wasn't it just like a better ECU and fuel maps?
Basically, the engine I end up buying wont be in a road legal car and will be built anyway...
So the main question, I want to make sure that if I were to get the S13 KADE that I could get the same HP with the same mods if I were to do it on the S14 KADE and run it on Megasquirt and not be minus 10hp just because.

Both the ka24de in the s13 and s14 have the same hp numbers. The only real major differences I know of between the two is that the 95 s14 ka's didn't have intake runners (the 96, 97 and 98s might not have had runners either but I know the early 91-94 s13's should have them). And the 96+ ka's were OBD2 compared to the 91-94 being OBD1 with the 95's being a cross between OBD1 and OBD2 since it was a transition year.

Yea I remember the OBD1 and 2 in 96 I thought, but still, didnt think it would help HP numbers...maybe your right though, maybe it was just a myth thrown around for a while.

SOME 95 actually are OBD2, some are what is referred to as OBS1.5, which has elements of both 1 and 2 in the wiring.
Also, there are major differences between the vacuum lines, and the 95 and up system has the coil built into the distributor, whereas the earlier KA24DE's have it outside as a separate component.
*physically* the are the same, inside the engine. You can use the trans from any year KA, even the SOHC I believe.

OK, got my questioned basically, there are differences, but I can do the same exact upgrades to a S14 KA and S13 KA and the power will basically be the same, after running with standalone. I doubt vacuum lines are going to screw with power. Thanks Arro

yes the are virtually the same the major differences are the intak manifold, distibutor, and the 91 KA had the best cams out of all year KA's. I have am building an s13 right now with an s14 block s13 head and everything lined up the only thing that i know of engine wise that is different is the Front engine cover with the oil pump has some slight differences but just order the cover depending on the block you have

Sold my S13 though...havent looked back. The S12 is probably the only S Chassis I'll play with anymore...
Soon I plan on picking up a Q45 to do VIP and use as a DD...after that, maybe a drift Z33 since prices are coming down quite a bit from a few years ago.

the vacuum line thing like arro mentioned, that is due to the fact that the butterflies went away, as well as all the lines associated with them.
