yeah it use to be automatic.

Okay, so from a little search i heard i can do a S12/S13 combo driveshaft, or custom (way too much right now, i really don't need this)

is there a way to balance out the S13/S12 combo driveshaft? it's just a custom driveshaft is way over my budget, i was quoted like 200 - 300 i can't afford to spend that much right now.
turbos12
ur using ur stock drive shaft for ur auto tranny?..u need a drive shaft for a manual tranny..
Arro
You should have searched all this before you even assembled your engine hoist.... taken measurements, made whatever emails and calls and questions you needed, etc. Starting a swap without having all the facts is just stupid, and this is why you frustrate people on here sometimes. You don't look before you leap.

Okay the S13/S12 combo I think is for manual trans cars. I don't know about automatics. The only person who's documented an automatic to manual conversion is IggyEGuana and he used a custom shaft.

The concern is the bearing that the shafts run through... if the automatics are in a different position than the manual cars, then you're gonna need a custom 1-piece shaft no matter what.

I take it you have an R180 in the back... measure from the front of the rear end's snout (that flange the shaft bolts to) to the bearing and give us the measurement.

you can also get an 86 s12 d/s because it came with the same c trans you have you just need the front portion of it and it should be good also you'll need the trans mount as well you might have to custom fab like iggy did

or listen to Arro smile.gif
Arro
Jason he doesn't have a C trans, read what he said, he's an automatic. Remember when he had issues clearing his torque converter? He's the same situation as Waylon had. He's just prolly gonna need to do exactly what Waylon did.
sideways_s12
I know that's why I said listen to arro
Arro
Nissan sucks for making things so hard for the automatic guys.
rage
my car used be an automatic, but ive always had a custom driveshaft

find an s13 manual 2 piece driveshaft and see what you can piece together but, i honestly dont know, like arro
fyneyoungstunna
you need to clarify if you have manual or automatic
Arro
He already said in this thread that he has an automatic on post #4, and he had another thread where he had trouble disconnecting the torque converter.

Like Jeff, you gotta read more tongue.gif
jeffwins24
Shaft 1 (the one that slides into the tranny) is 1 foot and 8 inches. Shaft 2 (the shaft after that retarded bearing and flange) is 1foot 10 inches.

yeah it use to be automatic.

he said his car "use to be automatic"......
so that means he need a manual drive shaft..
Arro
Which half shaft is the carrier bearing on, the front section or the rear? Jeff -- take a picture.

My concern is that the carrier bearing on his automatic is in a different location than on a manual trans car, in which case he won't be able to use the S13 front/S12 rear manual shaft combo, and his only solution will be a single-piece shaft.

It's on shaft 1 I'll try to take a picture later on.

hey, this thread could help someone else down the road with a autofail tranny tongue.gif ha ha

the bearing is closer to the flange like if i measured it without the flange it would be 1 foot 7 inches the bearing being 1 inch long.
Arro
Ahhh then you should be okay, the carrier bearing is probably in the same position as it is on the manual trans cars. Get a front shaft section from an S13 manual car and pair it with your S12's rear section, and you will be fine.
jeffwins24
awesomeness! ha ha thanks Arro, and to everyone else that replied big money saver.

thanks again guys
Arro
Again I'm just guessing, so if it doesn't fit, let us know so at least we can document it.
fyneyoungstunna
i did read, but when he said it "used" to be , that threw me off.
