I looked for it googled imaged it ( using the image of a timing chain cover as reference) can't find a straight picture.

how do i take that timing chain cover on a KA24E off?

8 bolts in the face are off.

the 2 bolts in the oil pan are off and the three at the top are off. ????? what am i missing

and yes all the bolts on the head are loose. I tried hitting it with a hammer moderately and still nothing.

If it's anything like the DE, it's also held on by silicone, so you'll have to use a mallet to loosen it, then maybe a flat scraper or putty knife to get it off.

I bet Caithness knows, he has lots of pics of his KA24E build on his thread...

You might take a look there, and ask him questions. Right now, I think he's the resident KA24E go-to, since he's rebuilt his longblock already.

somethin huge like 24 or 26 mm

and then your gonna need a pully puller...

and yea for the timing cover, just take your time. dont pry on the thermostat housing like i did (i broke mine, and still dont have a replacement lol)

If i remember right its a 24mm. and yes, you need a pulley puller. that cover sucks to get off, i did a timing belt on a nissan truck with the ka24e at work about 2 weeks ago. getting that damn cover off took FOREVER. use a rubber mallet to *try* to break it free, then get like a chisel and lightly tap it under the cover all the way around till its free. 20 year old silicone=FAIL

yea sometimes its bad, sometimes not so bad.

the last time i tried, the cover actually was sorta seized onto one of the dowel things down near the oil pump side and the hole cracked open. i was pissed. never happened before!

why are you taking the chain cover?

you can remove the crank/head and pistons WITHOUT removing the chain cover

If taking the cover is like the ka24de u might have to unbolt also the oilpan because the the oil pickup is wedged in there. I slapped my forehead when I finally figured that out taken apart the ka24de.

you have to remove the oil pump too. lining everything back up is a biatch. so mark the dist. u need to remove a few oil pan bolts.
when putting it back together, remember to get new o-ring seal things. theres 2 of them behind the cover. for coolant i think, they need to be replaced when the cover gets cracked open. they are easy to lose too. so double check them.

these people pretty much covered it. its much easier with the engine out of the car. hell, i replaced all the seals in my living room watching tv
