So two weeks ago, still heartbroken over the violent loss of my 85ca20 hatch, I limped a POS 85 notch back from Spokane (the trip itself a grand adventure) as though it were a trophy winning show car. (Thanks Equinox)
Last Saturday, we started the swap project with a fervor, first draining all the vital fluids(I think there was about a quart of oil left after the drive), and fired up the motor. Holding the accelerator to the floor, we committed ca20 euthanasia and proceeded to get really grimy.
Two hours ago, after following Sterling's wiring write-up to the letter, the engine fired up after about three cranks of the starter and ran like a thoroughbred!! I must officially thank those that have bravely gone before me and made this possible, especially mad props (from my buddy who helped with all the grunt work too) to sterling for that write up. If you are considering this swap or are in the middle of it, there is where your headache will end.
As soon as I can figure out how to get the videos from my phone available to the club, I will show off the euthanasia as well as the rebirth...

http://photobucket.comYou can upload both videos and images, and they provide the forum style code to post them here. The posted videos show a video preview window that can be clicked on to take someone to the video. Kinda nice because the forum won't let you embed an actual video.

KA FTW, ive never owned a KA S12, but just for the shear fact of the aftermarket support and the amount of cores to be had over here... CA18DET < KA24DE(T)
CA18s may be the shit, but nothing beats having parts all around you...
good vid, but the sound of the car was poo... need more vids of you driving it outside

Working out some minor details like exhaust and windshield. As soon as it fully roadworthy I'll make more vids. One problem I'm having is when it's all warmed up it tends to backfire upon deceleration and die at idle. I think this has something to do with the fact that I've done away with most emission control hardware, including the egr. If anybody else has done something similar and has any ideas let me know.
Also, on her maiden voyage, the outlet for the upper radiator hose on the radiator itself busted off resulting in a cloud of white smoke (yay) so I'll be needing a new radiator...
