rotating the dizzy...
**set your engine to tdc on cyl 1.
**remove dist. cap
**if your engine is at tdc the rotor in the cap should be facing towards 4-5o'clock looking at it from the drivers side fender. it should be pointing at cyl 1, which is like this crappy art. \\\= the rotor pointing towards cyl 1 at tdc

Other thing to note. When setting it to TDC on cylinder one do it on the compression stroke. PLUS! once that's done. Pull out the dizzy. Line up the two lines on the gear and casting on the dizzy, And then rotate it backwards one tooth. When the helical gears mesh together they rotate slightly, so that is pretty crucial to do. Then it's just a matter of rotating the dizzy to the proper initial timing. I had to do it a billion times on my dual cam in the 240, and I got used to doing it pretty quickly.
Easy way to tell compression stroke
Pull off valve cover, pull out spark plug. When rotating engine watch the rockers on the intake (left looking at engine from front) to lift up, Then keep rotating until you see the top of the piston in the spark plug hole. and take it to its highest point. Or just stick a straw in and watch it. You'll know what to do. and BAM! time her up, then fire her up.
