Simple enough. I'm close to buying my ka drivetrain, but it's short the harness and ecu and probably tons of stuff I haven't considered. My engine bay was toast, so I'm assuming most of the harness is useless anyway ( it was a ca20e ) and want to make sure I'm buying the right drivetrain. I would really love to be able to just find a parts car with brakes, shrouds and multiple other parts I'm going to have to swap, but I will not find an s12 around here and that leaves me with a donor 240sx. Am I missing something here? Is there an easier solution?

right on... I know there is a wealth of information on the swap itself so I'm hoping it won't be horribly complicated. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some easy bolt in swap that I wasn't considering. I've found two 240's in the past month for scrap that would probably give me everything I need. Would the shrouds and brake components I need be swappable from the s13 chassis?

Easiest way to swap to the 240 brakes is to do the full swap. Which pretty much requires coilovers as the springs are too big.

But, To grab a 240's brake bits you need is. no joke, 2 bolts, and 4 nuts on each side, and snip the brake line.

Take the tie rod nut off and crack the tie rod off, grab tie rod later - nut one
Take the tension rod off at the chassis - bolt one
Take the Lower control arm bolt off at the chassis - bolt two
Three nuts for the strut under the hood - last three nuts
Snip brake line.

I will say though, the chassis bolts for the tension rods, and the LCA, are a bitch and a half. They're almost always seized into the control arm and don't slide out.

Oh, and the KA is prolly the easiest solution. Your already doing new wiring and stuff, might as well give it some life instead of the gutless CA20

no question about ridding my life of that gutless wonder of a four banger, but I've got a mechanic buddy that keeps saying "you've got to do a full harness swap and everything... why stick with a nissan drivetrain?" and you know, I don't have an answer. I could pick up an old E30 from a buddy who's got a 2 spares, for nothing. I just figure the nissan drivetrain will probably fit waaaay easier and won't need a ton of fabbing to get it to fit.

ka's bolt in easy peasy thats why

it would be nice to change those 20+ year old cables you know..., the ka is a really good engine and like they say sometimes the best things on life are the best ones and the swap its not hard but its the best

go kade, just do it!!!!

I agree. Throw an engine in a 240, take that motor and throw in a 200.

KA swap is easier than you think. I did mine alone in 3 days, pulling both motors out of cars.

The only harness you have to pull out of the 240, is the engine harness. Which you disconnect the ECU in the car, and pull it out the firewall. Then it's just a few connections by the battery tray and pull the motor with the harness... No losing where they plug in at all.

Then it's less than ten or so wires to get everything functional. I think I used 8 (3 or 4 of which were for guages)

To me, Puttin a KA in them is an easy bolt in swap. only 2 real things you need to fabricate in my case (Trans mount, and cutting the hole in the tunnel...) I just chose to do more for bettering my happiness

have you road tested it yet

Moved to the KA section.

Go Kade..i have a single cam so im not a hater, its just if u decide to modify it later it will be much easier to find parts for a dual cam.

the swap itself is easy, dont be like me and overcomplicate it. but, you have a whole board of people that are willing to help.

oh and read the replies to most of my post's in this section, that will probably cover most of the stuff you will get stuck on. happy motering.

I called this guy to help him. And walked him through a lot of it. That's how easy the swap really is. I helped him from over 1000 miles away.

lol, at least you had everything you needed for your swap lol.
I still need clutch kit, Flywheel, Flywheel bolts, Luckily I can use the slave from my B-Trans.... needs new Sensors, since the wreckers wrecked the sensors on the new trans.

Atleast you guys have a choice lol. If I want a N/A Twink it's either an SR20 and £££s on a S14 'box, or, uh, that's it....
