Like it says. Found a couple parts cars. A ka24de with 280,000k (that's still a boatload of miles) or a ka24e with 180,000k.
The facts:
Ka24de
-Looks unmolested, though its been in a salvage yard for two years and I couldn't get her to start.
-280,000k
-Body gaps are good and no other signs of impacts
Ka24e
-Looks like a crack-whore. Impact to drivers rear 1/4 that's pushed the rear wheel back about 4 inches into the well.
-"only" 180,000k
-started without a cough, with only a battery boost and some clean fuel, after almost two years idle in a yard; also didn't smoke!
-Fart-can exhaust and mickey'd aftermarket intake.
I'd only be into either of these for the drivetrain and electrical parts I need for a ka swap and whatever brake and clutch components are adaptable to the 12. I'd obviously rather the extra cam, but would also love an engine that won't tire too quickly.
Both cars had oil levels that were topped up and relitavely clean.
Can't afford both right now.

rice or not the de has got BIG miles on it. i would do e because of what you typed,it started and ran, it has less miles, intake and exhaust.got with the ka e and maybe she will be ok under boost.

i would rebuild both of them. the 2 KA's that have died on me had about that mileage on them

Seeing as both will need the refreshing. I would go with the DE personally. But it's mainly a personal preference with what you want now.

you would rebuild a block with near 300k miles as opposed to one with 100k less at 180k? i see why anyone would buy the de if you have to rebuild both. but he stated ". I'd obviously rather the extra cam, but would also love an engine that won't tire too quickly." I am going to guess that he is trying to do a rebuild later rather than sooner.

yea... I kind of figured a rebuild into the mix. Unless I bought a complete drivetrain from a reputable importer ( big bux compared to some junker donor ), like some have said, I'd be taking a chance.
Rather the headache of a rebuild before the engine goes in, as oppesed to after. And unless I have a parts car, I'm still looking for all the hydraulics, harnesses, and bits 'n pieces after the initial cost of the engine / transmission.
I've searched and can't find the differences between power output for the DE vs. E. Same block and internals right? Good parts supply for the rebuild?

actually, i think, the de is a better deal, just cause its hard to find performance parts at a good cost for the single cam, you can find used performance parts for the dual just about all over the net.
single cam parts have just about dissapeared. but stock for stock id say the single cam just cause its a "bit" sturdier.
i have a dual cam block with internals and a remaned head(just the head) make me an offer if you want em (any decent offer realy, i just want them gone)

that's a dualie or the single cam?
I think I'll be going with the DE if only because It'll be rebuilt anyway and it's at a salvage yard, so I can pick what I want and leave the shell (I won't be stuck with another non running vehicle in the yard)

if your talking to me, its a dual cam , just sitting here....taking up space.....being lonely.....causeing cancer to unsuspecting squirrels....killing the ozone....lol

if you must run them do a compression or leakdown test. if they come back good, run em til they die
ka24e = 140hp/152tq
ka24de= 155hp/160tq
