Full Version: Basic Ka Source Vehicle Question

I am sure this has been covered somewhere else but how are the Altima motors for use as a swap into the S12s? Finding S13/14s these days in the salvage yard is getting harder but the Altimas are in abundance. Obviously the tranny is no good and I am thinking the intake is a no go but what else? Are the electronics okay? What about a Frontier as a source? Are they a lower quality build?

*edit, what I first wrote was stupid. I didn't read the topic.

To answer your question. The Altima motor won't work, the distributor would be sticking into the firewall. The Frontier motor should work though, but I would still run it with s13/s14 electronics for simplicity.

So the distributor location is entirely different on the Altima then, I didn't catch it. So the Frontiers are built in Mexico but are fine quality-wise then?

the exhaust manifold would most likely be different as well, and the fact its transversely mounted

where are you located?

look ok zilvia, nico, and CL for ppl doing SR swaps on s13s and s14s

they usually almost just give them away for cheap

I am located in Ocean Springs, MS. I will check those out and see if I can find one. The reasonably priced yards in MS and southern AL have been cannibalized already. Stock does change of course but right now nothing good.

frontiers also have a different intake manifold as well. far less desirable than a s13/14 ka

I looked at NICO for a bit, if I lived in the NE, I could buy and stack the KAs like cordwood. biggrin.gif

I am gonna make some furniture out of some KAs cause I have about 4 of them sitting in my garage.

Yea I think maybe my timing is just not good right this sec. I'm gonna keep watching the local junkyards and the online board classifieds. One will turn up reasonably close I think. I did find a built KA24DE on Zilvia but he wants 1800 for it with nothing more than the bare engine. It might be a good value but thats a bit more than I wanna spend just on the motor.

1800 for a bare KA? Is it gold plated? What kind of mods does the motor have to justify that pricetag?

For 1800, you can get an SR20 with EVERYTHING.

The specs of the engine are

Yep, thats exactly what I thought when I saw it. I know some crazy money can be spent on a built motor but I dont think I need that much to get where I want to be (250hp.)

Ok so that is for a built ka and a gt3071r turbo. Now its worth the price tag. Maybe still a little high (depending on the condition of the turbo) but certainly sounds more reasonable now.

There is a guy on a local forum here that is selling a running ka for 450 and a full 5 speed swap (trans, flywheel, clutch, etc.) for an extra 450. it also comes with a spare clutch and a spare trans with bad synchros. if you are interested.

Bahhh... for 900 you can come up to Wi, Buy an S13, Drive it down, and still be 200 bucks less

Motor- 200
Trans- 200.

Actually its kinda confusing when you read the thread but the turbo doesnt come with it. One buyer said he would take it if the turbo did come with it but the seller laughed at him.
