False. The silver top HLA motor has the 3-4 extra hp... Black top was 110, and the silver top is 115.

Is it noticable? Nope
JonB
Black top is 102HP
Silver is 99HP

Truely, I don't think their is really any difference in power between the 2 engines... changes are pretty minor, the biggest one being the black top has solid lifters and the silver top hydrolic ones. Would that change the total output of an 8v engine... I don't believe so. I prefer having the black top one for strenght and because it cost nothing to maintain/replace but I really don't think you could attribute a 3 hp gain on lifter changes. The other changes are the ignitor an some other minor difference that IMO would not be enough to have any difference on the actual number the engine is putting, even less on your own butt dyno. Now if you guys want to know why nissan advertise those numbers, I don't have an anwser for you, probably just a change in the mesuring equipement between the time they dynoed the silver top would be my wisest guess....
backwoodsbuilder
yea i was jw about it mines the black top u can hear them solid lifters yucky.gif
sam31183
does anyone know the torque difference?
tommy
I believe both are like 116ft/lbs for both engine type, since I have never heard of an other figure for a stock Ca20
JonB
I keep finding 116 for both also. @ 3200 for the '85 model.
sam31183
yah, well hp is a made up figure anyways....so there you go!
EternalSwap
the mkIIs have the aiv, which might fuck up some power.
