Okay so this might sound crazy but...

My car was running really rich. I just figured from the smell and all the smoke it had made. It smelled like fuel and the exhaust has black around it. Well my air intake wasn't really the best. I guess you can say it was kind of ghetto, so it might have read un metered air.

Well I decided to take a air flow meter from a nissan quest and switch out the maf sensor from the original air flow meter and put it on the bigger one. Well my car wasn't smoking as much but it lost ALOT of power. So I changed it back to the original one. Instead of using my "ghetto" setup I had made sure everything was tight.

It doesn't seem to run rich but now I am not sure if its running lean. I am kinda clueless what to do. Do I need to upgrade anything dealing with the fuel?

Or should I find a place to get my car dyno.

Question that I have been wondering for awhile.... How exactly does someone tune a 84 200sx turbo? I mean can they actually tune it to run the right a/f ratio?

Srry for all the questions. Its just been bugging me and I wanted to find out some information about getting your car dyno and tuned before I spend the money to do it.

Any advice is helpful. Im a newbie sad.gif

I may be misunderstanding you, but if you just switched the MAF to one from a quest you should have to have a AFC or something to trick the ECU cause the quest MAF is going to give you an incorrect reading, therefore making your car bog down or slow. Hopefully this gives you some help and I'm not just confused.

Yea the MAF housing I took off of a nissan quest but the MAF sensor from the 200sx I took off and put on the MAF housing of the nissan quest to put onto my 200sx. I was just experimenting. It seemed to get more air but the car was just accelerating slow. Like their was no power. It reved all the way up and accelerate to max rpm but just no power

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the MAF from the quest would be tricking your ECU. IF you don't have a AFC or something to trick it back so the ECU understands it that would make sense why the car seems to be running really slow.

Nice band-aid, but there was no point in swapping housings because you're still using the same sensor. The sensor itself is probably starting to go or you have a leak somewhere. Try replacing all vacuum hoses and check for holes/cracks on intake and other random hoses. Boost leak? Compression & leakdown test. Do a tune up: timing, plugs, and plug wires.

Stick with the basics, you're jumping the gun with your car.

I know that when I first start up my car I have a manifold leak but when it starts to warm up and get hot it stops leaking. I am guessing because the metal expands and seals everything up. My timing, plugs, and plug wires are pretty much perfect. It only has been 15,000 miles since the engine rebuild and since everything was changed. Thanks for the advice about the sensor though. Ima look into to that. I think I am going to put in a a/f ratio gauge just to see where the car is running.
