the wiring is easy just fallow the wiring guide in the ka24de sec. do not over think the wiring, thats what i did, its not hard.
get a coulpe sets of trailer wiring kits from harbor fright $6 its nice to have the plug at the end lol then wire the beezy up & go
why did you take the motor out?
Deezus
Mar 22 2010, 11:23 PM
well i bought the car with the swap.... didnt do any research about s12s or KA swapp before hand... the swap was TERRIBLE. the car ran for about a month, when it began to hesitate and act up so bad i couldnt drive it. so it sat with a little bit here and a little bit there done. got it running again and before i could even start to diagnose the hesitation it fried everyground wire and my brand new msd coil.... so i decided to pull the motor an install a whole new engine harness (pulled it because it needed a new trans too 2nd gear grind) ive been reading and reading about the swap. pulled the motor last night and skipped school today to just chill. bought some supplies to relocate my battery to the rear so i can fit my dual fans when i finish them.

daymotorsports, on modmastaz suspension thread. i was iffy on them until i asked around here, i live spitting distance away from a dirt track and its really big in my area and a few kids at school who race said they are ok to use

Mar 22 2010, 11:36 PM
mine likes to act up to, one of the wires that plugs in to the ecu is loose at the pin so it likes to throw codes for a bad crank sensor but i just mess with the wires a little at it goes away.
i would imagine that getting a new harness is the best way to go. who knows what hill bully shit someone did to it. its a good time for some cleanin a?
whats the plans for the car. dd racing or both.
how much did you get the car for? if u dont mind.
ka's are great motors
Deezus
Mar 23 2010, 02:11 AM
im building it for DD and drift duty until i get out of school and snag a truck, then it will be a straight track car. i paid way more than it was worth but i was stupid then and wanted a car to slide / needed a car for work.. i paid 1500 for a car that was worht maybe 500. only thing good about the car is that its pretty much rust free, except for under the rear of the passenger front fender and a quarter sized surface rust spot on the drivers side strut tower.
EDIT: i think i figured out that the hesitation was a vaccum leak... everyone kept telling me that but i was like no, no, no i cant find one... well when i pulled the motor i was just looking at it and on the ver back of the motor theres a bunch of small tubes and on of the rubber tubes was split whre it went onto the metal tube... i would have never seen that with the motor in the car. so i just cut a new tube and put it on.

If you were on the west coast I might agree but on the east coast finding s12's that are not completely rusted out if you can even find one seems to be a big factor with the price. Its all supply and demand. Because basically all of the 80's Japanese cars were imported into America from west coast ports and because rust over here is much less of a problem you don't have a hard time finding a Japanese car that is 20 or 30 years old. California especially is just loaded with old Japanese cars for sale. Even living in Seattle I am envious of the Californians in that aspect

no really... the car wasnt worth what i paid. i think i was the first or second person on driftpa.com to own an s12 and since then maybe 5-6 others have popped up all paid around the sam price for a better car.
EDIT: the car might be rust free but NOTHING works, 1 door lock, hatch wiper doesnt work, hatch defrost doesnt work, no windsheild washers, headlights dont go up and down, grinded second gear, shitty swap, blown struts, no stereo, nor the wiring to install one, ecu was just jammed up under the dash out of site, interior was clean except for the doors and the rear seat.... not to mention it died after a month of driving
Johnny_boi
Mar 23 2010, 03:34 AM
ya you did pay to much but i live on the west coast. the most i paid for a s12 was like $500 delivered to my house from the bay area some 4 hours away. with only 122,xxx miles. but thats how it is out here. but i think some ppl would pay that much for a running ka swapped s12. there's no way to tell if any car you buy is going to go 10 miles down the road and breaks or be the best car you ever buy. dont get me wrong. there are ways to tell, but that will only tell you so much.

No one told you? This is just how it is owning an s12. Just of the things you listed I have between my two s12's as well: hatch wipers don't work on both, no windshield washers on both, headlight motor replaced on the 85, very worn shocks/springs on the SE, no stereo for awhile in both, ca18et was completely unreliable for a daily driver, etc etc. I think you might have overpaid a little but for a mostly rust free chassis I don't think you got completely screwed especially considering your location. Also, was the ka-de in it when you bought it or did you swap it out yourself? I can't check out the link in your comment cause you have to log in to see the thread.

quick question, would s13 headlight motors work? and no the swap was already done when i bought it... i drove it home and to work and school for about a month. the swap was terrible which is why im pulling it back out and redoing the swap.. the sad thing about it, the guy who did the swap was a mechanic.. well at lteast thats what he told me

Yeah you mentioned you bought it swapped earlier in the thread I am just blind and didn't see it

. Sorry about that. And yeah it looks like that guy did a number on the wiring. I hate wiring too so I feel your frustration. On the bright side once you do get the wiring worked out your set as ka24de s12's are awesome!

The ka24de is just as reliable as an sr20de if they are in the same condition. Who said the sr20 is more reliable? lol

Mar 23 2010, 11:38 PM
im not talking about a de, im talking about a det.... everyone i know except for 1 person that has a KA has had problems with it (the one kid just got his less thatn a month or so ago) and ive only heard of a few people having problems with an SR and chances are if you have problems with your SR either you did something wrong or you got it from the wrong place lol and its soo much easier to put power to an SR
Navy_Mech2
Mar 23 2010, 11:51 PM
i would have to disagree. have you ever been to ka-t.org? click around a bit on that site and it may change your mind. it sure changed mine. not to mention the ka will put out more torque than the sr which will make putting around town much easier and fun. not to mention if you get lucky you can find another ka in the yard for less than 500 with a tranny. and it can make around 300 wheel on stock internals. unless you can get a kick-ass deal on a sr, i would boost the ka.

Mar 24 2010, 12:13 AM
I have had 3 ka24de's and all have been great in terms of reliability. My current s13 I have owned for 3 years now I got at 130k and now has 160k+ and has only had the water pump go out in that span which is very common for ka's and sr's alike. A lot of guys hype up the sr20 like it is some super engine when it is not. For just one example: the sr20det uses inferior rocker arms while the ka24de shares the same superior cam on bucket design as the ca18det. The sr20det is a good motor however Nissan manufactured it with an emphasis on being cheaper to produce versus the ca18det it was replacing. If you want to go sr20 just to go sr20 that is fine. But these perceptions that an sr20det is more reliable than a ka24de in the same condition is just completely unfounded. A lot of the ka's you are seeing that are unreliable probably have higher miles and have been beaten by drift boys. Hardly a fair comparison to an imported sr20 with usually much lower miles.
Deezus
Mar 24 2010, 01:25 AM
if you look at the specs youd think the KA would be more reliable... but im talking from expirience, sorta lol never owned an SR and this is my first KA but everyone i know who has an SR has only ever had turbo problems for a blown head gasket. yes the KAs im talking about have been beaten drifting, but the SRs have been beaten even harder. this car is going to be run hard and beat hard so i want whats been proven to me as reliable. plus with a few modifications an SR can easily hit 300-350whp without touching the internals adn still be reliable.
oh and worked on my fans again today, started cutting some steal for my battery mount but lost interest,

moar pics of the setup in the car and almost finished once my phone charges

Mar 24 2010, 02:20 AM
ive owned 3 ka24de great engines, my kade pulls pretty damn hard with the standard mod for a na. course ka's is not a Honda motor, you cant just throw a turbo on it and think its going to last, that goes for any Na car when you turbo it.
idk what the ppl you heard this from did to the motor. so i cant say much but, i have heard that a good ka24det will do 230hp to the wheel
check out www.ka-t.org

Mar 24 2010, 02:25 AM
im not saying KAs dont make power, they make power but you have to put a lot more time and money into them to make the same power you could with just some injectors and a tune on an SR. stock kas pwn hard but thats pretty much where it ends for me. ill probably do a lightweight flywheel, some lighter pulleys if i have to replace my clutch before i go SR.

just playin the money you spend on a getting a sr (what like 2 grand for a stock motor. than about another G for power parts) you could have a kick ass ka-t on your hands, on good internal, lightweight everything. about 1 grand just in the bottom end, some nice cams and youll be eating sr's for dinner

thanks dood. as you can see... not the best at welding but i recently discovered i like making my own things. making my own sideskirts, battery tray, fan shroud... any other ideas... im ganna try something for my interior to fix some poopy door panels.
2 peices of fabrice cut to shape, then sewn together on the outside. Spray adhesive on the back peice and the surface you want to cover, then wrap what you want to cover and hold tight until it holds. use 2 layers of fabric so the back sticks and the front doesnt feel rough from the adhesive. im ganna try it out on my center console first.
