whats going on guys? i finally got around to putting the fuel pump in the s12 but that was the easy part. i am now caught in a dilema. im gunna start at square one with what happened to my original fuel pump. one day i was driving down the road having some fun in the twisties and i start smelling burning rubber. not the good kind lol. like burning smoldering wires. so i pull off the road and see some smoke in the hatch area. at this point i thought i was about to blow up. wires were shorting out and melting at the fuel pump harness. i then pop the hood and disconect the battery. ok... no more sparkage. i then got the car towed to my uncles and its been sitting there for to long now. i narrowed it down to the previous owner who was a freakin suicidal idiot from queens. on the fuel pump harness theres a few wires cut and spliced which was not properly insulated and seperated causing them to touch and short which ultimately burned my pump out. it seems the previous owner tied the alarm system into the harness but i also located a toggle switch in the back right compartment in the trunk. now this dosnt look factory but im not sure but theres a white wire coming from that. now i can give a crap about my security system so thats whatever. what i need from you guys is a wiring diagram of the fuel pump harness with the right wires and the right color wires that need to be connected to the top off the fuel pump to inside the quarter panel. but a detailed picture would be so much easier. the harness on top of the fuel pump housing is untouched. so that is fine. its the harness that comes from the quarter panel to the two connectors on the fuel pump that are f'd up. to make this easier for you guys im gunna go up to the car tomorrow and take detailed pics of this so called harness, so you guys can point me in the right direction. i just wanted to get a head start with you guys so you know whats gunna be coming. wiring just confuses the shit out of me. BREWSTER240 i live right next to you and was wondering if you might be able to give me a hand. thanks in advance guys. i just want my car back!!!!! and sorry if the typing is a lil off, its 5:41 in the mourning

For starters if you could put some spaces in your writing it would help us all out, it gets hard to read when it gets long like that.

Honestly I'm a little confused on what you are saying exactly. There is a common problem with these cars in the fuel sending unit. Often times the wires themselves will come in contact with the fuel sending unit cover, the little swivel plastic thingies just corrode out and can cause a problem.

That may or may not be your problem if it is just the wiring you can do a search on these forums and should be able to find it. My bookmarks are a mess, i had a different diagram, but this is all i can find for now.

sorry for the long pointless post with bad punctuation. this isnt the common problem that you were talking about. the previous owner messed with the harness and looks like tied the security system into the fuel pump. the wires werent insulated good and touching each other along with the fuel pump cover leads causing my pump to short out. that post you referred me to is great thats what i needed. nice and simple. im gunna go by that for now and throw the pump in 2morrow and tell you guys how it went. hopefully she starts. wether she does or dosnt im selling her. i want it to go to a club member so it will be for a good price. thanks for the reply

Do you have any means of taking a photo of the problem wires? There should be 2 flat connectors going to the fuel tank with (I think) 3 and 4 wires respectively. Your car is an '87 SE automatic?

I've got an 88 manual I will take a look and get back. But please take a photo and post, it is the most likely way to find an answer.
