ok, got an 84 CA18ET with 94k, oil when cold reads about half way or so (digi-dash gauge), when warm it goes to the second "line" at idle, and rises with throttle added...
sound like its too low? would a valve cover gasket leak cause low oil pressure?
yes i did search and couldn't find a definite answer

I think it's a common problem. Happens for a lot of people, including me. Think it's the sensor

Oil pressure sender. Pull the plug off, clean the connection, reinstall.
Easy peasy

shit my says 0psi

when i am driving it, but the engine sound good so it may be a oil pressure switch.

ill give it a shot, bought the mechanical this morning(anyone know the thread type?) ill be installing asap, but ill try cleaning it off and getting it to read... other than that the valve cover is pouring oil out on the turbo side
never farted with an 18et, but is the loud ticking normal?

Yeah it's the injectors most likely. Takatakatakatakataka

I think it's more along the lines of Tikitikitikitikitikitikitikitikitikitikitiki
All day long. Yes. Our old school injectors are LOUD

No a valve cover leak won't cause a low oil pressure reading. Well it can if all of your oil leaks out of the valve cover.
Sure it's not your solid lifters ticking?
I have no idea how much oil pressure you have according to that gauge. Two LED lights is about diffinative as a dollap or a smidgen.

+1 on cleaning the sender connections it will help I had the same issue and refused to pay 170 for a new one

170 for an oil pressure sender

Well maybe usdm makes the tikitikitiki sound because european ca18 definitely makes the takatakataka sound

I have a feeling this may be a difference in nationality.
I know that in danish a dog barking is vov-vov, where as here is woof-woof, and in france it's ouah, ouah.
I'm sure they (The injectors)sound the same. They're loud. It's just a difference in perception and how to describe it.

Perhaps differences in air pressure due to altitude.

ok, assuming i installed it right(kinda hard to fark up) the mechanical gauge read at idle, (1200rpm??? I farking hate the digi-dash... sunpro tach here I come)about 10-15psi, which if i read correctly the FSM says 14psi at idle, but what is idle??? foot off the gas it reads 2 lines above "1"
ehh... getting tired of trying to explain, barrowing friends camera for video and pictars...
the car has been sitting for at least 4 years, what else could cause low oil pressure???

I listen to a lot of electronic music. Could that have damaged my hearing?

My injectors tick bad!
After I replaced them they were even louder, lol.
My oil pressure gauge is all over the place too.. digi dash. If i'm correct the middle hash mark should be 45PSI..

Which brand injectors did you replace them with?

well, the digi-dash can bite my dink... i disconnected the stock sender and i don't know that i will put it back... in-fact i would have saved money buying the ol'skool triple pack gauges instead of buying it separately
i fired the car up, no revving, just idled... it started at 60psi, and over about 5-10min, it crept down to 14psi @ 600-750rpm, unless i read wrong, that is correct pressure at idle(FSM was using 20w-20 but shouldn't be a difference)
anyway, i think everything is good, just got scared that the engine was on the verge

Awesome you got it working correctly. It's a task with this engine.. haha

I bought some refurbished from beck/arnley.. wholesale for 15 bucks each. I've been running them 2 years with no problem
