hey i was wondering if it is possible to put in a VG30DETT out of a 300zx in my 1984 200SX XE and if so how much of a PITA is it gonna be?

search around this has been dicussed many a time I believe one person has done it but nobody knows if it ran or onot or for how long the question is why do it there's barely enough room in the bay of a z32 for that engine why try to shoe horn it into the bay of an s12 if you do get it in there and running if anything goes wrong be prepared to pull the motor. IMO it's not worth it but hey it's your car if you want to do it don't let me stop just make sure you post plenty of pics of the process....

found a parts TT300ZX rear of car is gone though guess it spun out and clipped a pole pretty hard but the motor is still good i figured it was worth a shot to ask
VG33ERGazelle?
anything is possible with the right amount of time, money, resources, and patience...

however. most of us s12 guys lack most, if not all of these things xD

as a general rule of thumb for easy motor swaps in s12s, stick with inline four motors [SR, KA, CA] or SOHC v6 motors [VG30, VG33]

Agreed.

RBs are becoming a little more common it seems.

There's pics floating somewhere of the vg30dett in the s12.... the motor basically takes up the entire engine bay. The ENTIRE ENGINE BAY!!! It's nuts.

This is true but it also depends what engine your s12 started its life out with. The engine cross members are different between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder s12's. So if you want to swap in a 4 cylinder engine your going to need the 4 cylinder s12 cross member. If you want to swap in a v6 your going to need the SE s12 cross member (which are getting pretty hard to find).

Redneck just nailed the big determining factor. The VG30 crossmember for the S12 is hard to find. They're out there, but no where near as frequent as the 4-cyl S12 crossmembers. And the 4-cyl S12 crossmembers have a variety of bolt-in 4-cyl swap options.

If anything, V6 S12 guys are more likely to switch to a 4-cyl swap, not the other way around.

It's just a matter of practicality.

Yeah I have always found that to be ironic with how rare the SE's are. I would imagine this really irritates the guys that have been specifically looking for an SE for a long time and can't find one. As Diasiss of Jassics would say: "1 of only 10,000!!!!"

ahh yes of course, I did forget to mention that. I left it up to implication, which is not wise in most cases lol.

My SE will never go four cyl. Who would downgrade, the VG30 is plenty capable. Plus its rare as shit.

One day I'll have a fleet of Se's. smile.gif
