Everyone know that circular speaker cover opening right by your right knee? Right behind that cover, below the warning chime, is a little black box with a 'reset' button - cant find it anywhere in my manual

Because you are leaning/touching the car somewhere, allowing a ground path to the car body.
just make sure your pants are dry when leaning (or do not lean on the car) and do not touch the car with your other hand.

gotcha - thank you. next question - the security system in the car; is it a Type F one wire system or a Type B negative pulse from switch to factory relays?
I'm redoing the messed up install of an Avital 2200 keyless entry and alarm system and trying to figure out what im doing without making it all worse
also, there is a security system related fuse that has mercury or some metallic liquid inside it - what is this type of fuse called? it is not a standard fuse, and was attached to the underside of the hood - to switch on/off whether the hood was open/closed

Funny you should ask about security systems, I am having issues with my stock install and no wiring diagram to work from. I just want mine to go away.
As for the little device with the mercury inside. It is a switch, when the blob of mercury is at the end w/o contacts then it is "Open" when it is tilted towards the contacts then it is "Closed". Low tech tilt switch, but very reliable.
When someone opens the hood with out disabling the alarm, then they get an ear full.

Yes, initially I was ripping out the entire system, soldering the starter kill back together, and ignoring the whole damned thing.
But now I've been intrigued by resetting everything properly and getting keyless entry and alarm functions back if it kills me. Everything seemed to go haywire when I got the car back from impound after letting the battery drain. we'll see. I have the the factory secirty manual, the Avital users guide, and the installation guide, and a basic understanding of wiring (they carry electricity, don't they?)
so why would the mercury switch be under the hood? to disarm or to arm?
I THINK it was wired inline before the honker - so the thing wouldnt blare while open - makes sense I guess
Soo, can i remove the sensor unit? or will a light come up on the dash

I have the the factory secirty manual
so does that mean you can tell me how to reprogram my keyless?

I just kept pressing buttons, but yes, I got my fob to reset to the car - now I have keyless entry again. The manufacturer should have installation/owners guide online

oh, i thought you were messing with the stock keyless, not the aftermarket one.

Yeah, its an Avital 2200 keyless entry & security. I just redid some messed up wiring and reprogrammed my two keyfobs - its great to be able to open and lock the doors from far away, amazing the stuff you take for granted on new cars. I'm now pretty up on all the security system wiring and such, and am moving on to 1) rewiring the OE bosch foglights which have been flickering occasionally & 2) getting my pass. side headlight to retract, I know the motors good because it'll go up
(?) The unit with the four fusible links in front of the battery doesnt even have prongs for the first one (out of the four) on the far left (btry.alt.-) is this normal?

Well like I said before, and without actually seeing the install, I would bet it is there to activate the alarm when the hood is opened. Although I find it odd to have a trigger on the hood, most folks are worried about thieves breaking into the interior and then gaining access to the engine bay. Of course if someone were to try to open the hood in order to disable an alarm... Stupid idea, since most systems have Caps for just that reason. It could also be to turn on a light in the engine bay for night ops. Or...
