Full Version: Alternator Wiring - What Goes Where?

So I'm pulling out the old racecar for the summer. Can't wait to hit the road with it. It was dead over the winter, so I replaced the alternator and the battery.

I drove it around the block, she goes great, but I noticed that none of the following work:
* RPM gauge
* Battery volt meter
* dash lights
* dash clock

I tested all the leads coming out of the battery. They seem to be drawing current, at least near the battery, so the most likely scenario seems to be I must have messed up the alternator wiring.

I found a FSM with an ambiguous diagram:IPB Image

But I can't match up what it shows to what I have.

I have:
* Rubberized factory plug with 2 leads (only one place it fits, great)
* Power wire. This is obvious and I must have it right since the battery charges
* Ground. I think I must have this right because nothing exploded while driving around the block
* Thin black wire ending in a spade connector
* Moderate sized white wire

The diagram shows W, B, W/R, W... I can't make any sense of this.

Would someone please give me a hand putting the last few wires in the right spot?

Update: I took a picture of my current wiring.

The positive lead goes straight to the battery. I installed it myself to upgrade the size of it and eliminate that as a potential problem (for a past issue)

The white lead... goes... ? Maybe that one should also go on the positive post.

And the black lead, barely visible in the picture attached underneath the canister, is presumed to be the ground.

Two questions now:
* Where does the white wire go?
* Should I fatten up that ground and send it directly to the engine/chassis?

thats kinda wierd though, mine have just been the big plug and, shit, i forget.
